Since 1946, the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program has helped nearly 23,000 teachers contribute to mutual understanding between the United States and countries around the world.

If you are a full-time U.S. teacher, you may be eligible to apply to the program.

The application deadline is October 15, 2005 for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Applying to the Program
Deadline

Deadline: October 15, 2005.
Applications submitted via the internet must be submitted by midnight (EDT), October 15, 2005 and must include all references/approvals. Applications submitted by mail must be postmarked by October 15, 2005 and include all references/approvals. Late applications will be considered only for countries for which additional candidates are needed.

Eligibility Requirements

Elementary through four-year college teachers are eligible to apply for positions abroad. However, not all categories of applicants are eligible for all countries. In cases where a match cannot be found for an applicant's preferred country, other countries may be considered unless the applicant indicates on page A-1 of the application that he or she will not consider placement in countries other than those listed.
To be eligible for the program, an applicant must meet all of the following seven requirements. Failure to meet any one of the requirements makes a candidate ineligible. At the time of application, a candidate must:

be a U.S. citizen;
hold a valid U.S. passport;
be fluent in English;
hold at least a Bachelor's degree;
have a current full-time teaching assignment in the U.S.;
be in at least the third year of full-time teaching; and
have not participated in a Fulbright Teacher Exchange longer than eight weeks in the last two years (There is no required waiting period for teachers who have participated in exchanges of eight weeks or less.)

For the purpose of determining eligibility, "full-time" refers to applicants who are currently employed full-time by a single institution (school, school district, or college). Teachers who hold a combination of part-time jobs which may add up to a full-time equivalent are not eligible.

The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, or national origin and encourages the applications of members of minority communities. In keeping with the Federal government's ongoing efforts to ensure that its programs reflect the ethnic diversity of the United States, the Teacher Exchange Branch welcomes the opportunity to promote the appreciation and understanding of a multicultural America just as the Fulbright Program promotes the appreciation and understanding of a multicultural world.

CONSENT OF TRAVEL PERMIT FOR MINOR UNDER AGE 18

Under Chilean law, a child under 18 not traveling with both parents, must have a notarized (by a Chilean notary) permission (in Spanish) from the non-traveling parent permitting the travel, regardless of the nationality of the child or parent (if the parent and child are in Chile as tourists, the law does not apply).

If the mother or the father is in the USA: (1) she/he needs to fill the attach form. Ca call to find out to which chilean Consulate she/he should send the documentation of consent. (2) She/He can sign the statement before a local notary, have the local notary's signature authenticated by the Secretary of State of the State of USA, then have the Secretary of State's signature authenticated by the Chilean Consul in Chicago (who will probably want the document translated into Spanish before signing). (3) In Chile, bring it to the Commission. We will have it legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

International Police at the airport in Santiago will retain the documents. So make copies ahead of time.
