On the 12th of May, the Fulbright Commission of Chile held an orientation for their 2006 Chilean grantees. The event was held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica, followed by a farewell luncheon attended by all grantees, Fulbright U.S. Visiting Scholars in Chile, members of the Fulbright Board of Directors, and Commission staff
The orientation began with a speech by Emi Yamauchi, President of the Fulbright Board of Directors and Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Embassy, who discussed the mission and objectives of educational exchange. Fulbright U.S. Visiting Scholars Dr. Karen Grove and Dr. Jeffrey Frykholm both gave powerpoint presentations about academic expectations in the U.S. Finally, former Chilean Fulbright scholars Pilar Palacios (Fulbrighter 2003, University of Maine), Pablo Correa (Fulbrighter 2003, Harvard University), and Jose Miguel Tagle (Fulbrighter 2001, NYU) all gave presentations and showed photos of their experiences as Fulbrighters in the U.S. Other guest speakers included Eugenio Spencer of CONICYT, Rodney LeGrand of the U.S. Embassy consular services, Professor Carlos Vignolo from the Universidad de Chile, and Denise Saint-Jean, Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission.
