The
aim of the program is to enhance the
study of Chile in the United States
and the study of the United States in
Chile, to broaden research efforts in
a wide range of subjects and to strengthen
the academic standards of regional universities.
Academic semesters are from March to
July and August to December.
Awards are rarely made during the January-March
period, unless approved by the Fulbright
Commission in Chile.

teaching experience, but junior scholars
as well as professional candidates with
compelling proposals will also be considered.
For all awards, applicants should secure
an expression of interest from a Chilean

The
Fulbright Commission in Chile can assist
with final confirmation of affiliations.
Grant length is flexible within a range

Comments
This
award supports a priority for the Chilean
educational system: improving the teaching
of English at all levels of the educational
system. The Ministry of Education has
initiated a program, English Opens Doors,
calling for all Chilean elementary and
high school students to be able to pass
a standardized English listening and reading
test in a decade, with a more ambitious
long-term goal to make all 15 million
of Chile's people fluent in English within
a generation. While applicants may propose
affiliation with any institution in Chile,
the following universities have expressed
interest in receiving scholars in particular
areas:
Under
Chilean law, a child under 18 not traveling with
both parents, must have a notarized (by a Chilean
notary) permission (in Spanish) from the non-traveling
parent permitting the travel, regardless of the
nationality of the child or parent (if the parent
and child are in Chile as tourists, the law does
not apply).
If
the mother or the father is in the USA: (1) she/he
needs to fill the attach form. Ca call to find
out to which chilean Consulate she/he should send
the documentation of consent. (2) She/He can sign
the statement before a local notary, have the
local notary's signature authenticated by the
Secretary of State of the State of USA, then have
the Secretary of State's signature authenticated
by the Chilean Consul in Chicago (who will probably
want the document translated into Spanish before
signing). (3) In Chile, bring it to the Commission.
We will have it legalized by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs.
International
Police at the airport in Santiago will retain
the documents. So make copies ahead of time.
